Rep. Andrew Clyde, who represents Georgia’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on April 16, 2026, expressing strong opposition to recent immigration policy decisions and criticizing fellow lawmakers in Washington.
In a tweet posted at 15:12 UTC, Clyde stated, “The world is not owed a job, benefits, and place to stay in America. We are a nation of laws and U.S. citizens—not a charity service. Folks here in Washington (including some of my Republican colleagues) need to remember that.”
Later that day at 17:26 UTC, he continued his criticism by writing, “I’m sick and tired of the Uniparty’s defense of America Last immigration policies. Our duty is to serve the AMERICAN PEOPLE. That means our focus is on the dignity, prosperity, and futures of American citizens—NOT illegals or unvetted foreigners.”
At 20:30 UTC on the same day, Clyde addressed legislative developments regarding Temporary Protected Status for Haitians: “10 Republicans just teamed up with every House Democrat to pass a 3 year extension of Temporary Protected Status for Haitians. The move would shield 350,000 Haitians from deportation. This is an unthinkable betrayal of the American people.”
Andrew Clyde has represented Georgia’s 9th district since replacing Doug Collins in 2021 and has consistently won re-election by wide margins over Tambrei Cash in 2024 (69% to 31%), Michael Ford in 2022 (72.4% to 27.6%), and Devin Pandy in 2020 (78.6% to 21.4%). Born in Walkerton, Ontario, Canada in 1963 and currently residing in Athens at age 59, Clyde continues to voice his views on immigration as part of his legislative agenda.
