Rep. Andrew Clyde, U.S. Congressman representing Georgia’s 9th district since 2021, used his social media platform in mid-May 2026 to criticize federal surveillance practices and gun control measures enacted during the Biden administration.
On May 12, 2026, Clyde posted, “The American people don’t want Big Brother in their cars, bank accounts, or communications. END THE SURVEILLANCE STATE.”
A day later, on May 13, he commented on gun regulations by stating: “When the DOJ defends unconstitutional gun regulations and the ATF is weaponized against Americans, the government has betrayed its founding purpose. That’s why the FY27 CJS appropriations bill defunds and repeals ALL Biden-era gun control.” On the same day, Clyde addressed National Firearms Act (NFA) requirements with another post: “$0 NFA tax = ZERO NFA registration. While litigation on this matter is ongoing, Americans’ tax dollars shouldn’t be used to fund invalidated NFA requirements.”
Clyde’s statements reflect ongoing debates about federal authority over surveillance and firearms regulation. He has represented Georgia’s 9th District since replacing Doug Collins in 2021 and was born in Walkerton, Ontario in 1963 before settling in Athens at age 59. Clyde has consistently secured reelection victories: defeating Devin Pandy in 2020 with nearly 79% of the vote; Michael Ford in 2022 with over 72%; and Tambrei Cash in 2024 with almost 69%.
