Representative Andrew Clyde, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Georgia’s 9th district since 2021, recently expressed his concerns on social media regarding various legislative issues. Born in Walkerton, Ontario, Canada, and currently residing in Athens, Clyde graduated from the University of Notre Dame and Bethel University in 1985 and later from the University of Georgia in 1999.
On May 14, 2025, Clyde addressed the current budget reconciliation bill. He stated that it does not fully eliminate what he describes as “the unconstitutional taxation of suppressors.” According to Clyde, while the bill reduces the transfer tax to $0, it retains a $200 making tax. Furthermore, he noted that “it does nothing to eliminate the taxation on SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs,” calling this situation “unacceptable.”
The following day on May 15, Clyde turned his attention to Medicaid. In a post made at 13:41 UTC, he declared that “Medicaid is BROKEN.” He emphasized that it will require courage for Congress to address these issues through budget reconciliation.
Later that same day at 15:30 UTC, Clyde criticized some members of his own party for their stance on Second Amendment rights. He argued that “far too many Republicans claim to be pro-2A” but fail to act accordingly. He urged for the complete elimination of taxation and registration requirements for SBRs (Short-Barreled Rifles), SBSs (Short-Barreled Shotguns), AOWs (Any Other Weapons), and suppressors. Clyde concluded by asserting that Americans expect Congress “to deliver, not surrender.”
