The Atlanta Falcons announced on Mar. 12 that they have signed free agent kicker Nick Folk.

Folk, who is 41 years old, brings 18 seasons of NFL experience and ranks 16th in league history for points scored. In the previous season with the New York Jets, he led the NFL by making 96.6% of his field goal attempts.

Over the last three seasons, Folk has topped the league in field goal percentage and has made at least 95% of his attempts each year. He also recorded 18 successful kicks from at least 50 yards during this period, marking a personal best for any three-year stretch in his career. Throughout his career, Folk has converted 85 percent of his field goal tries and nearly 97 percent of extra-point attempts, with a longest field goal of 58 yards.

The Falcons used three different kickers during the previous season and are seeking more consistency on special teams under new coordinator Craig Aukerman. Folk previously worked with Aukerman in the 2024 season while both were with the Tennessee Titans; that year, he made over 95% of his field goals and was perfect on extra points.

The start of the NFL’s new league year allows teams to officially sign free agents and finalize trades. The Falcons compete in the National Football League’s NFC South division according to the official website. The team is based in Atlanta, Georgia according to the official website and began as an expansion franchise in 1965 according to the official website. The Falcons have advanced to two Super Bowls—in 1998 and again in 2016 according to the official website. Freddie the Falcon serves as their mascot according to the official website.

With this signing, Atlanta aims for greater stability at kicker as they prepare for upcoming seasons.
