The Atlanta Falcons have completed an interview with Anthony Weaver for the team’s head coach position. This comes as the organization searches for its 20th head coach after parting ways with Raheem Morris at the end of the 2025 season.

A new leadership group, including Falcons President of Football Matt Ryan, is leading the process to find a successor. The search is being conducted with assistance from ZRG Partners and Sportsology Group.

“Our search committee will be structured a little bit differently than it has been in the past,” said Falcons owner Arthur Blank on Thursday. “(It will) still be made up of a component of people that represent our leadership in all areas of our businesses, but we’re going to put heavy emphasis, we’re hiring this president of football first. That’s the goal, and over the next couple of days, we have a series of interviews set up. We want to get that person in their seat and have them lead the interviews for the head coach and general manager position going forward.”

The team plans to announce completed interviews with each candidate and provide updates along with background information.

Anthony Weaver currently serves as defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins, a role he began in 2024. His career includes seven seasons as an NFL defensive end after being drafted in 2002. He played for teams such as the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans before starting his coaching career in 2010.

Weaver’s coaching experience includes positions with the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns as defensive line coach. In 2021, he returned to Baltimore as run game coordinator and defensive line coach before being promoted to assistant head coach/defensive line coach for two seasons. Since joining Miami, Weaver has helped guide their defense to allow an average of 22 points per game over two seasons, ranking 15th in the league during that period.

Throughout his coaching tenure, Weaver has developed strong defensive lines. Under his guidance in Baltimore, the team led the league in rushing yards allowed in 2021 and finished third in 2022. In 2023, they allowed only six rushing touchdowns—the fewest in the league. During his first year with Miami, their defense ranked fourth overall and tenth in scoring defense; he also contributed to Bradley Chubb achieving 8.5 sacks following recovery from injury.

Weaver previously interviewed for Atlanta’s head coach vacancy in 2024 and remains on their radar as a candidate who could benefit young players on Atlanta’s defense.

The Atlanta Falcons are based in Atlanta, Georgia according to their official website. The team competes in the National Football League’s NFC South Division and began play as an expansion franchise in 1965. The Falcons have reached the Super Bowl twice—in 1998 and again in 2016 according to their official website. Freddie the Falcon serves as their mascot as noted by team sources.
