The 2025 NFL Draft is fast approaching, and the Atlanta Falcons are making strategic moves to bolster their defense. In a mock draft presented by Tori McElhaney, several trades and key selections were highlighted, pointing towards an aggressive effort to enhance the team’s roster.
In the first round, the Falcons traded their 15th and 118th overall picks to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for four others: 22nd, 55th, 125th, 158th, and 181st overall. This trade was guided by the Chargers’ desire for an offensive talent in a draft where offensive options were depleting quickly.
With the 22nd pick, the Falcons selected EDGE Mykel Williams from Georgia. Despite a recent injury, McElhaney noted that “the way Georgia cross trained and deployed him is important to note,” emphasizing his versatility and suitability alongside current Falcons linebacker Kaden Elliss.
The second round saw the Falcons targeting the secondary. At pick 46, CB Trey Amos from Ole Miss was chosen, appreciated for his multi-system experience and SEC pedigree. “He’s someone who has the traits and look of a player primed for a starting spot in the league,” noted McElhaney.
S Xavier Watts from Notre Dame was picked with the 55th selection. Though not the most physically imposing, Watts “has a skillset that is a bit more layered than specific” and is seen as a potential partner for Jessie Bates III.
Continuing their focus on defense, the Falcons executed another trade with the New York Giants. They gave up multiple late-round picks and future choices in exchange for the 99th and 154th caps this year. This trade facilitated the selection of Nebraska DT Ty Robinson. McElhaney characterized him as a “big dude” ideally suited to replace the retired Grady Jarrett.
In the fourth round, Atlanta selected C Drew Kendall from Boston College. Despite an initial commitment to avoid drafting offensive players, McElhaney noted, “I do think the Falcons need to bring in competition for Ryan Neuzil.”
Finally, the Falcons picked EDGE Jared Ivey from Ole Miss in the fifth round. A local talent with significant potential, Ivey is expected to develop further under the tutelage of veteran Leonard Floyd.
This mock draft, according to McElhaney, focused heavily on reinforcing the defensive lineup, a priority for the Falcons heading into the 2025 season.
