After their recent victory in New Orleans, the Atlanta Falcons’ momentum was halted in Week 13 with a 27-24 loss to the New York Jets. The defeat has significantly diminished Atlanta’s chances of making the playoffs, leaving them reliant on winning the NFC South to keep postseason hopes alive.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers maintained their lead at the top of the division following a narrow 20-17 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Offensive lineman Tristan Wirfs stood out for Tampa Bay by scoring his first touchdown on a short pass from quarterback Baker Mayfield and delivering strong blocking throughout the game. Defensive tackle Vita Vea added five quarterback pressures and a third-down sack, bringing his season total to 3.5 sacks. However, Tampa Bay’s passing game has struggled recently, averaging just 5.6 yards per attempt over four games—a figure among the lowest in the league.

“It’s playoff mode and it’s playoff time and we [have] to embrace the grind and embrace the pressure. We [have] to execute and make plays in those situations,” said Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles.

The Carolina Panthers kept pace with a notable 31-28 victory against the Los Angeles Rams, whose defense has been among the league’s best this year. Quarterback Bryce Young delivered an efficient performance, completing 15 of 20 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns while also adding rushing yards. Safety Lathan Ransom made an impact in his debut start by recording a sack and leading Carolina with 11 tackles. Despite these positives, Carolina’s early down run defense allowed an average of 7.2 yards per carry during first and second downs—currently worst in the NFL.

“We needed that kind of challenge so that our guys could rise to the occasion, make plays, have a more balanced attack and be able to play the type of offensive football we know we’re capable of,” Panthers head coach Dave Canales said.

For Atlanta, running back Bijan Robinson had a strong showing with 193 total yards—the second-highest mark of his career—including both long runs and receptions. Rookie edge rusher James Pearce Jr., who now has five sacks on the season (tied for most among rookies), continued his streak with at least one sack in four consecutive games. Special teams were a weak point for Atlanta; mistakes included a muffed punt by Jamal Agnew and conceding an 83-yard kickoff return that contributed to their defeat.

“Obviously, we didn’t play in our favor today. Gave ourselves a chance to win. We played well on two phases, didn’t play well on another phase, and you’ve got to play all three phases of the football game to win football games, and we did not today,” Falcons head coach Raheem Morris stated.

The New Orleans Saints suffered another setback with a loss at Miami despite wide receiver Devaughn Vele catching all four targets for 93 yards—including a crucial fourth-quarter touchdown—and defensive end Cam Jordan recording two sacks along with several stops in limited snaps. The Saints have struggled all season to take early leads in games.

“Every game has things we can take from it, both good and bad. The way our guys responded, the way our guys battled, I love and appreciate that…I thought our guys responded in all three phases,” said Saints head coach Kellen Moore.

Following Week 13 results:
– Tampa Bay Buccaneers: First place (7-5 overall; undefeated within division)
– Carolina Panthers: Second place (7-6 overall)
– Atlanta Falcons: Third place (4-8 overall)
– New Orleans Saints: Fourth place (2-10 overall)

Next week will see Tampa Bay host New Orleans while Atlanta hosts Seattle as both teams try to improve their standing within their division.
