The scorching summer heat in Flowery Branch, Georgia, is setting the stage for the upcoming training camp. As players and coaches prepare to return, questions about the Atlanta Falcons’ undrafted free agents (UDFAs) and rookies are on fans’ minds.

Steven T. from Ripley, New York, raised a pertinent question about the potential of UDFAs making it to the 53-man roster. “Love this question, Steven,” was the response, highlighting Joshua Simon as a standout UDFA. The tight end from South Carolina impressed during rookie minicamp with his size and versatility in both run and pass games. Despite having established players like Kyle Pitts and Charlie Woerner, Simon’s potential as a depth player could be valuable.

On defense, Cobee Bryant was noted as another significant UDFA acquisition. Although surprised by his undrafted status, many see Bryant’s addition as a plus for the Falcons. However, existing depth at defensive back poses challenges for his inclusion on the active roster.

Zander D. from Port Orange, Florida, asked about realistic expectations for this year’s rookies. The response suggested that four out of five drafted rookies—Jalon Walker, James Pearce Jr., Xavier Watts, and Billy Bowman Jr.—are expected to become starters or significant role players on defense. While exact production metrics remain uncertain due to limited exposure in live settings, their early presence is anticipated to bolster the unit’s performance.

The expectation is high for these newcomers to make an impact early in their careers with the Falcons.
