Atlanta Falcons starting right tackle Kaleb McGary is expected to miss time after sustaining an apparent leg injury during practice on Wednesday, according to a report by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The exact length of McGary’s absence has not been determined.
McGary was taken off the field by cart early in the Falcons’ final preseason practice. Following the incident, a team spokesperson said that McGary would have an MRI to assess the extent of his injury.
In McGary’s absence, Elijah Wilkinson stepped in at right tackle with the first-team offense for the remainder of practice. Wilkinson has played both left guard and left tackle during Atlanta’s two preseason games so far. Rookie Jack Nelson has also seen time at right tackle in exhibition play.
The Falcons are already dealing with another loss on their offensive line. Backup swing tackle Storm Norton is out due to what head coach Raheem Morris described as a lower-body injury that has sidelined him for much of training camp. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Norton underwent ankle surgery on Tuesday and is projected to be out for six-to-eight weeks.
Atlanta will play its third and final preseason game Friday against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. The team’s season opener is scheduled for September 7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
NFL teams must finalize their 53-man rosters by Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.
