Today, Representative Andrew Clyde announced that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will reduce the number of temporary closures at Lake Lanier recreational sites. Initially, 21 sites were scheduled to close ahead of Memorial Day weekend due to staffing shortages and safety concerns. However, only 11 sites will now be affected.
Clyde stated, “Upon being informed about the park and boat ramp closures on Tuesday, I pressed the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to reach a more acceptable solution to safely increase access to sites on Lake Lanier.” He added, “I’m pleased that more Lake Lanier boat ramps will be open, and only 11 recreational sites will be temporarily closed.”
The decision comes after additional rangers were allocated following Clyde’s outreach efforts. This adjustment aims to ensure residents and visitors have safe access to parks during the holiday weekend.
More details regarding these temporary closures can be found on the USACE’s website.
