Congressman Andrew Clyde announced on May 13 that Hall County Parks & Leisure will take over management of 11 additional recreation sites along Lake Lanier through a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This move follows the passage of legislation introduced by Clyde, which was signed into law by President Donald J. Trump earlier this year.
The development is significant for residents and visitors who use Lake Lanier’s parks, as it aims to keep these areas open and well-maintained. The law allows local partners managing multiple recreation sites at a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers civil works project to spend collected user fees across all sites they oversee at that project, instead of being restricted to using funds only at the site where they were collected.
“I’m thrilled to see my successful legislative effort in action for the Ninth District,” said Andrew Clyde. “Last year, I offered a simple yet effective solution to help keep Lake Lanier parks open for residents and visitors alike. Due to my hard-fought efforts, this measure was signed into law by President Trump through the appropriations process — delivering a critical win for our beloved Lake Lanier and surrounding communities. I applaud Hall County and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ partnership, and I look forward to these additional recreation sites remaining open, safe, and well-maintained for years to come.”
The legislation mirrors Clyde’s Lanier Parks Local Access Act, which seeks to encourage local governments to manage more recreation sites on projects like Lake Lanier.
Last year before Memorial Day Weekend, staffing shortages led the USACE Mobile District—which oversees Lake Lanier—to temporarily close 11 Corps-managed recreation sites. Weeks later, Clyde introduced his bill in response; less than one year after its introduction, it became law through the appropriations process and has now been used by Hall County officials as intended.
Clyde has served in Congress representing Georgia’s 9th district since 2021 after replacing Doug Collins according to Ballotpedia. He won his most recent election against Tambrei Cash with nearly 69% of votes according to Ballotpedia.
