Congressman Andrew Clyde attended a home dedication ceremony in Pendergrass, Georgia, for U.S. Army Sergeant Samuel Walley, who was severely injured during his service in Afghanistan. The event was organized by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which provided Sgt. Walley and his family with a mortgage-free smart home.
Sgt. Walley was injured on June 6, 2012, after being struck by an improvised explosive device while deployed in Afghanistan. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and lost his right leg above the knee and left arm below the elbow.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has been supporting veterans since September 11, 2001. At the ceremony, the foundation presented Sgt. Walley, his wife Hannah, and their two children with their new home.
“Sergeant Walley exemplifies heroism, patriotism, and resilience,” said Clyde. “While we can never fully thank or repay Sgt. Walley enough for the scars of war he endured for our precious liberties, I hope that this home represents a strong reminder of our Northeast Georgia community and our entire nation’s sincere gratitude for his valiant military service.”
Rep. Clyde delivered remarks honoring Sgt. Walley’s service and presented him with a U.S. flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol Building.
“Sergeant Walley’s selflessness to protect and defend our Stars and Stripes will never be forgotten,” said Clyde. “As a Navy combat veteran, I’m incredibly grateful to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation for going above and beyond to support America’s veterans and their families.”
In recent years, Rep. Clyde has won several general elections in Georgia’s 9th District: defeating Tambrei Cash in 2024 with 69% of the vote; Michael Ford in 2022 with 72.4%; and Devin Pandy in 2020 with 78.6%.
