David Clark, a House Representative from Georgia, has announced that his campaign for lieutenant governor is gaining momentum due to his “proven record and dedication to protecting faith, family, and freedom.” The statement was made on the social media platform X.

“Amazing time speaking to the Republican Women of Forsyth County,” said Clark, State Representative from Georgia. “The momentum for our campaign grows every single day because voters know I am the only battle tested candidate running for Lt. Governor. I have the proven track record of holding the line and being a voice for the people. Faith, family and freedom are not just words. They are the foundation we must protect to save our state and nation for the next generation!”

The 2026 lieutenant governor’s race in Georgia is shaping up to be a competitive contest within the Republican Party. Multiple state legislators have entered the race early, including Clark, who represents District 100. He announced his candidacy in August 2025, becoming at least the fourth elected Republican to join the race. This crowded field highlights intra-party competition over conservative credentials, tax policy—such as eliminating the state income tax—and cultural issues as the party prepares for a potentially tighter statewide environment, according to GPB News.

While specific polling data for this race remains limited, early campaign finance filings show that statewide candidates have raised more than $19 million so far in the 2026 election cycle. According to StateAffairs, this indicates brisk fundraising ahead of the primary and suggests that candidates like Clark will soon face significant fundraising benchmarks.

In the most recent election for lieutenant governor in November 2022, Republican Burt Jones won with 51.39% of the vote compared to Democrat Charlie Bailey’s 46.43%. This relatively narrow margin for a statewide Republican race in Georgia illustrates potential vulnerability ahead of 2026, according to Ballotpedia.

Clark is a Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives representing District 100 (formerly District 98) since January 2015. He is also a U.S. Army veteran who served as a Green Beret and is a small business owner. His campaign emphasizes gun rights, religious liberty, eliminating the state income tax, and cultural-issue priorities. He launched his campaign for lieutenant governor in August 2025, according to 11Alive.
