Rep. Andrew Clyde, a U.S. Congressman representing Georgia’s 9th district since 2021, has recently shared his views on a proposed rescissions package through a series of tweets. Clyde, who was born in Walkerton, Ontario, Canada in 1963 and currently resides in Athens, Georgia, expressed his opinions on the allocation of government funds and the necessity for budget cuts.

On June 11, 2025, Clyde tweeted about a $1.1 billion allocation to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), criticizing it as funding for “propaganda machines like NPR and PBS.” He suggested that these funds come from taxpayers’ money. The tweet can be viewed here.

In another tweet posted shortly after, Clyde detailed the contents of the $9.4 billion rescissions package. According to him, this includes “$8.3B in cuts to woke and wasteful foreign aid spending” alongside “$1.1B in cuts to the left-wing Corporation for Public Broadcasting.” He noted that only a simple majority is required in both legislative chambers to pass these reductions. The original tweet is available here.

Clyde further elaborated on his stance by stating that supporting the rescissions package should be straightforward for Republicans. He criticized what he described as excessive government spending habits and highlighted resistance within his party towards backing these financial cutbacks proposed by the White House. He emphasized there should be “NO EXCUSE” for any Republican opposition against retracting funds meant for organizations like NPR or projects such as Iraqi Sesame Street. This statement can be found here.

Andrew Clyde graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BA and from Bethel University with a BBA in 1985; he also earned a degree from the University of Georgia in 1999.
