‘They are the best’: Local man thanks Hall County medics who saved his life

Local resident Kevin Hefferon is alive today – a statement that can be made thanks to the quick, efficient response by members of Hall County Fire Rescue

Hefferon was visiting a local pharmacy on April 20 when he suddenly went into a deep mental fog, unable to say more than a few words at a time and losing the ability to concentrate.

“Clonazepam, my name and the year – that’s all I could get out of my head,” said Hefferon, referencing a medication he was picking up at the pharmacy.

Employees at the pharmacy, located in Flowery Branch, quickly called 911 when they noticed Hefferon’s condition, and Hall County Fire Rescue firefighter/paramedics were on scene within minutes. They assessed Hefferon onsite, provided medical care and transported him to a local hospital, fearing he was having a stroke.

“He definitely had a decreased level of consciousness,” said Will Golden, Hall County firefighter/paramedic. “He would be able to answer a couple questions, then he wouldn’t be able to answer anything.”

Hefferon was taken to a local hospital, where he was intubated in the ICU for several days.

“They called my wife to have her come in because they thought I wasn’t going to make it, and they wanted her to be there in case I died. It scared the heck out of her,” said Hefferon.

But thanks to the quick response and care provided by Hall County first responders and the ensuing medical care he received at the hospital, Hefferon made a full recovery.
