WSBTV: A nurse's compassion and a pup named Jax

Recently, she formed a close bond with an elderly patient and provided her excellent care and comfort in the patient’s final days of life. During this time, Kim learned the patient had a beloved dog that she would be leaving behind, a Chihuahua named Jax.

When Kim heard that Jax was dropped off at a local shelter because there was no near-by family to take him, Kim rushed to the shelter. One of Kim's last moments with her patient was telling her that she had adopted Jax. The patient left this world knowing her sweet pup had found a new forever home.

One of Kim's colleagues commented, “This act of compassion speaks volumes about the type of nurse and the type of person Kim truly is. She educates, serves, provides the best care, and pours her heart and soul into who is she is as a nurse. And you know what, it shows!! When Kim badges in for her shift, Northside Gwinnett is immediately a better place knowing the patients in the Surgical/Trauma ICU are in good hands with Kim is part of the care team. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award than her.”

Kim’s dedication earned her The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses (The DAISY Award), an award for health care workers who go above and beyond.

Congratulations, Kim! And well done!

Kim's story was recently featured on WSB-TV.
