Susan Gaunt began her career in health care more than three decades ago in the Gwinnett hospital system, back when it was Button Gwinnett and Buford General. She has held many titles over the years, including volunteer, patient care tech, med/surg nurse, ICU nurse, clinical nurse specialist, and advance practice nurse.
In her current role as stroke program coordinator, Susan's dedication to stroke care delivery has positively impacted nursing and the community of Gwinnett. Northside Hospital Gwinnett's Stroke Program is one of her most distinguished accomplishments.
Under Susan’s leadership and guidance, the program has won countless awards, including American Heart Association’s Target Stroke: Honor Roll Elite Plus, Coverdell Acute Stroke Door and the Needle Time Award. She has developed strong relationships with community first responders and other hospitals to ensure excellence in care delivery across the continuum.
Susan's dedication and innovation in the field of medicine has earned her the 2022 DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award, an honor dedicated to nurses who have made it their life’s work to help others.
One of her co-workers wrote these words in her nomination, “Susan is the embodiment of care, compassion and dedication; it is simply in her DNA. I cannot think of a single more deserving recipient of the Daisy Lifetime Achievement award.”
Congratulations, Susan!
