Washington, D.C. — Congressman Andrew Clyde (GA-09) led 20 of his House Republican colleagues in sending a letter to Senate Republicans to express support for Senator Tommy Tuberville’s (R-AL) hold on Department of Defense (DOD) nominations until the Department rescinds its policy to facilitate taxpayer-funded abortions.
The lawmakers strongly urge Senate Republicans to support Sen. Tuberville’s fight: “As a party, we have always stood for a strong military, responsible use of taxpayer dollars, and unwavering defense of the unborn. Secretary Austin writing policy from the Pentagon undermines all three. We hope to see every Republican standing shoulder to shoulder with Senator Tuberville.”
“The Biden Administration’s obsession with weaponizing federal agencies — in this shameful case, the Department of Defense — to advance the evils of abortion is both immoral and unconstitutional,” said Clyde. “Secretary Austin should be purely focused on the DOD’s core mission of ensuring we maintain the most lethal military force in the world, not facilitating taxpayer-funded abortions. I’m proud to support Senator Tuberville’s fight to defend the precious unborn, uphold the Constitution, and protect taxpayer dollars. The time to fight is now, and I strongly urge all Senate Republicans to hold the line on this critical matter.”
