Former President Bill Clinton, along with former first ladies Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama, accompanied President Biden on Air Force One to Georgia for a tribute service honoring the late former first lady Rosalynn Carter. The high-profile figures' joint travel emphasizes their participation in commemorating Carter's legacy at the service set to take place in Atlanta. This trip demonstrates unity amongst different political figures as they come together to honor an influential individual who impacted American society significantly.
As the journey begins, it becomes apparent that not all details about the trip are easily noticeable. According to The Hill, reporters accompanying President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden did not observe the presence of the Clintons or Michelle Obama on Air Force One, but it was assumed they had already boarded when the Bidens joined the flight from Joint Base Andrews outside Washington, D.C., to Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, Ga. Additionally, former Virginia Senator Chuck Robb (D) was also listed as a passenger on the flight.
Now, let us step back and pay homage to Rosalynn Carter's life and accomplishments. According to CNN, Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, aged 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Plains on November 19, following the Carter Center's announcement of her entry into hospice care. Her husband, former President Jimmy Carter who is 99 years old also received home hospice care earlier this year after leaving White House in 1981. The couple settled in Plains which is approximately 120 miles south of Atlanta.
Preparations for memorial services proceeded with respect and solemnity. According to USA Today, Rosalynn Carter's commemorative events commenced on Monday with a wreath-laying ceremony at her alma mater, Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus. A tribute service is planned for Tuesday at Glenn Memorial Church at Emory University, and her funeral will be held on Wednesday at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.
State authorities have taken necessary actions to ensure a fitting farewell for the former first lady. According to the Capitol Beat, last week, Governor Brian Kemp activated the State Operations Center and deployed up to 50 National Guard troops to assist in managing logistical arrangements for the ceremonies for the former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.
