The Senate Special Committee on Investigations is set to convene its inaugural meeting tomorrow at the Georgia State Capitol. The committee's primary objective is to address allegations of misconduct by Fulton County's district attorney, Fani Willis. These allegations pertain to potential conflicts of interest and the misuse of public funds, which have raised concerns about the integrity of the criminal justice system.

The committee was established following the approval of Senate Resolution 465, which was sponsored by Senator Greg Dolezal from Cumming. The resolution aims to restore public confidence in the criminal justice system by thoroughly investigating the allegations against District Attorney Willis. The committee will also consider the need for new legislation or amendments to existing laws, as well as potential changes in state appropriations.

At the upcoming meeting, the committee will primarily focus on adopting procedural rules and discussing its mission. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, February 9th, 2024, immediately after the adjournment of the Senate Committee on Rules. The location for the meeting is Room 341 in the Georgia State Capitol. Notably, the meeting is open to the public, allowing concerned citizens to witness the committee's deliberations firsthand.

In anticipation of media interest, the Senate Press Office has requested that journalists confirm their attendance in advance. Sam White, from the Senate Press Office, can be contacted at Sam.White@senate.ga.gov for further details regarding media opportunities.

In anticipation of the committee's first meeting, Senator Bill Cowsert, who represents the 46th Senate District, including Oconee County and portions of Barrow, Clarke, Gwinnett, and Walton Counties, expressed his support for the committee's efforts. He can be reached at 404.463.1366 or bill.cowsert@senate.ga.gov.

As the Senate Special Committee on Investigations prepares to embark on its mission, the public awaits the outcome of its thorough examination of the allegations against District Attorney Fani Willis. The committee's findings and subsequent actions have the potential to shape the future of the criminal justice system in Fulton County.
