Moms for Liberty has endorsed Dorian Usherwood in his race for a seat on the Forsyth County Schools (FCS) Board of Education, representing District 3. Early voting began on October 15 and extends through November 1 for the November 5 general election.
The three main pillars of Usherwood's platform are transparency with parents when it comes to school curricula, responsible budgeting and use of tax dollars, and promoting academic rigor while rejecting harmful political agendas, according to his campaign website.
Usherwood "comes from a family of educators – with a father who was a college professor and president at various institutions and sisters who served as vice principals and professors," and believes that his familiarity with the educational system will be an asset to the Board of Education.
Usherwood has "nearly three decades of experience in the private sector, creating innovative digital solutions, managing complex budgets, and leading diverse teams around the world," according to his campaign website.
His family lived in Europe from 2016 to 2021, where he served on school and youth sport organization boards in Belgium and Switzerland, before returning to Forsyth County. He and his wife Robbyn have two children.
Per the Forsyth County Schools Board of Education's website, the Board comprises five members. Terms are four years and staggered so that two or three members are elected every two years.
Moms for Liberty is a parental-rights-in-education advocacy group founded by Tiffany Justice and Tina Descovich, two former school board members. According to their website, "Moms for Liberty is dedicated to fighting for the survival of America by unifying, educating and empowering parents to defend their parental rights at all levels of government."
