A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Forsyth County Election Department in Georgia on October 29, 2024. The request, made by NE Atlanta News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought information about the methods being used to count votes in the upcoming election.
The request specifically asked for details about whether the vote counting would be done manually or using a different method. If manual counting is being employed, NE Atlanta News also requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.
NE Atlanta News emphasized its role as a member of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. The organization stressed that access to public records is essential for fulfilling its professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In line with this mission, NE Atlanta News believes it is eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq., and has requested this consideration from the Forsyth County Election Department.
The department has yet to respond to this request.
