FOIA Request to Habersham County Election Department Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NE Atlanta News have submitted a request for records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request was sent with the aim of obtaining detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
The requested details include the first, middle, and last names of the candidates, the office they are running for, and their party affiliation. We also sought information about the jurisdiction of each office being contested.
In addition to these details, we have asked for all available contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We look forward to working closely with the Habersham County Election Department in ensuring that our readers are well-informed about their choices in the upcoming elections.
