FOIA Request to Forsyth County Election Department Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NE Atlanta News have submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request was made to the Forsyth County Election Department for records related to the upcoming election.
Specifically, we requested an electronic list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. This includes the candidate's first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation of each candidate.
In addition, we also requested contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Furthermore, as a media professional involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver.
