FOIA Request to Hall County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NE Atlanta News have submitted a request for records under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request was sent to the Hall County Election Department in Georgia, seeking information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
Our request specifically asked for details including each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation. We also requested contact information for each candidate, such as their address, phone number, and email address.
Access to public records is essential for us at NE Atlanta News to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
