Congressman Andrew Clyde's joint resolution, H.J.Res. 42, has passed the House of Representatives with a vote of 222-203. The resolution seeks to overturn a rule by the Biden-Harris Administration that imposed new energy standards on appliance manufacturers. This rule, finalized on October 9th, 2024, introduced certification and labeling requirements for various consumer products and commercial equipment.
The Office of Management and Budget recently expressed support for H.J.Res. 42 through a Statement of Administration Policy. Congressman Clyde criticized the Biden-era rule as burdensome and costly, stating it limited consumer choice and increased costs for Americans. He praised his colleagues for supporting the resolution and expressed hope for its swift passage in the Senate.
Chairmen Guthrie and Latta also voiced their approval of the resolution, emphasizing its importance in reducing prices for American families. They argued that the Department of Energy's standards led to fewer choices and more expensive products.
Ryan Walker from Heritage Action supported Clyde's efforts to overturn what he described as excessive regulations driving up living costs. Brent Gardner from Americans for Prosperity also welcomed the passage of H.J.Res. 42, criticizing the previous administration's regulatory approach.
Rep. Clyde had previously introduced several Congressional Review Act resolutions to challenge various Biden-era regulations, estimating potential savings of approximately $105 billion if overturned.
