The Atlanta Falcons have announced that inside linebacker Troy Andersen has been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list ahead of the team’s first training camp practice. Head Coach Raheem Morris remains optimistic about Andersen’s recovery and return.
“He is on track,” said Morris. “He’s doing really well. He’s in great spirits and he looks amazing.”
According to league rules, Andersen’s PUP designation does not impact the 90-man roster limit during training camp. However, for him to participate in the 2025 season, he must be activated from PUP by the end of camp. If he returns after being on PUP, he will miss the first four games of the season.
This move emphasizes Divine Deablo’s role within the defense. Deablo joined as a free agent this offseason and is expected to play alongside Kaden Elliss.
“I’ve been really pleased with what he’s done, Divine,” said Morris earlier in spring. “I’ve been really pleased with his character and how he’s fit into our football team.”
Andersen’s placement on PUP comes amid a history of injuries that have limited his playing time since being drafted in 2022. He played seven games last year but suffered a knee injury during a standout performance against New Orleans Saints, which eventually led to him being placed on injured reserve.
Morris intends for Andersen to return by preseason’s end; otherwise, he will be placed on reserve/PUP list ending his 2025 season prematurely.
“I think it is a deeper group than it was,” Morris commented regarding linebackers’ health status compared to previous years when injuries were prevalent.
As training progresses through preseason without Andersen actively participating yet due attention towards monitoring developments before regular-season kickoff remains essential given potential impacts should another prolonged absence occur due unresolved injury issues persisting beyond anticipated timelines despite current optimistic projections voiced publicly concerning eventual recovery
