South Hall Middle School enrolled 171 white students for the 2024-25 school year, marking an 8.1% decline from the prior year, reports the Georgia Department of Education.
The school’s total student body in 2024-25 numbered 953. Of those, white students represented 18% of enrollment, making them the school’s second-largest population group.
The campus is part of Hall County School District, which has its main office in Gainesville.
Within the 35 schools of Hall County School District, North Hall High School saw the highest number of white students enrolled in 2024-25, with 886 students.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, Georgia public schools had a student population comprising roughly 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% identifying as multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.
Chronic absenteeism continues to be a significant concern in Georgia schools following the pandemic, with the Georgia Department of Education reporting that 20.7% of students missed at least 10% of school days in 2024. To help improve daily attendance, GaDOE has initiated a statewide response, introducing a real-time attendance dashboard and launching a public awareness campaign, alongside offering additional support to districts with higher needs.
Georgia legislators in 2025 adopted an updated school attendance law prohibiting expulsions based solely on absenteeism. The law also introduces added reporting requirements and aligns with programs that let students earn diplomas via alternate routes. More about the legislation is available here.
By 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio stood at around 14:1, which is lower than the national ratio of 15:1.
