2022 mobile home property tax payments due April 1

114

County of Hall recently issued the following announcement.

Property tax payments for owners of non-homesteaded mobile homes will be due by April 1 this year as required by state law, according to the Hall County Tax Commissioner’s Office.

Approximately 4,500 statements were mailed out earlier this month.

In other tax-related news, Hall County mobile home owners this year are no longer required to place a decal on their mobile home to signify payment of their property tax bill.  The change comes after the passage in 2021 of Georgia Senate Bill 193, which granted counties the option to remove the decal requirement for mobile homes.

The Hall County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution in August 2021 to remove the mobile home tax decal requirement following a recommendation from the Hall County Tax Commissioner’s Office.

“I think anytime we can make life easier for the public, reduce expenses and not lose any essential function, we should proceed with full speed,” said Hall County Tax Commissioner Darla Eden.

She also reminds current mobile homeowners of their responsibility regarding ownership changes in their property titles.  Upon purchase of a mobile home, application for a title must be made within 30 days to avoid penalties. After the seller completes the assignment on the back of the title, the new owner must bring in the title to the tax commissioner’s office. The fees are $18 per title to change ownership and a current ‘tax paid’ receipt (if from another county).  A $10 late fee will apply if application is not made within 30 days of purchase.

In a concerted effort to save the time and resources of citizens, the Hall County Tax Commissioner's Office offers five ways to “Save A Trip and Skip The Line” to pay your tax bill. Utilizing the Tax Office’s enhanced website, making online payments at hallcountytax.org is the preferred method.

Online payment methods include E-Check ($1.50 flat fee) and debit/credit card (2.5% of amount plus $.30 cents per transaction). Most major credit cards are accepted. The newest method of payment is with PayPal Credit, which provides    a 6-month interest free, same-as-cash option to pay your property tax bill. The PayPal Credit Payment Option is a line of credit and is interest-free for 6 months if paid in full.

Another option is payment by mail, using the return envelope provided with the statement, to P.O. Box 1579, Gainesville, GA 30503. If you prefer a phone call, dedicated clerks at the Tax Office’s Call Center are ready to assist with credit and debit card payments at (770) 531-6950.

Citizens may also utilize the drop box located in front of the main doors of the Hall County Government Center at 2875 Browns Bridge Road. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, in-office payments will be limited to cash payments by appointment. All other payments will be directed to the drop box where a receipt can be mailed or emailed to the taxpayer if requested.

The Hall County Tax Commissioner's website (hallcountytax.org) has up-to-date information on property tax payments on all parcels. The Tax Commissioner's Office bills and collects taxes. The Tax  Assessor's Office determines property values. The Board of Commissioners, Board of Education, and   cities set millage rates. One mill equals $1 of tax for every $1,000 of assessed value.

The Hall County Tax Commissioner's Office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If there   are any questions or if assistance is needed, please contact the Hall County Tax Commissioner's Office by phone at (770) 531-6950, or email propertytax@hallcounty.org or text 1-833-602-8497
