U.S. Representative Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) has expressed strong disapproval of the bipartisan tax relief bill, which he claims allows non-citizens to exploit child tax credits.

In a pointed critique, Clyde stated, "The Swamp’s tax bill fails to close a loophole that allows illegal aliens to claim the Child Tax Credit". He further argued that "These payments simply reward and incentivize illegal migration!", adding, "What a slap in the face to the American people."

The bill in question is The Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024, H.R.7024. It is scheduled for a vote in the House of Representatives on the evening of January 31. This bipartisan legislation seeks to modify the low-income housing tax credit and depreciation allowances. Additionally, it introduces special taxation rules for residents of Taiwan receiving income from U.S. sources and expands the child tax credit program.

Clyde, aged 59, was born in Walkerton, Ontario, Canada in 1963 and currently resides in Athens. He represents Georgia’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, having succeeded former U.S Congress member Doug Collins in 2021.
