Steven Durocher, M.D., Named Piedmont Walton Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer
Piedmont Walton Hospital has announced Steven Durocher, M.D, as the hospital’s new Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Dr. Durocher has practiced emergency medicine at Piedmont Walton for more than 13 years and will maintain his clinical duties as an emergency medicine doctor in addition to his role as CMO.

Lake Oconee Academy Senior Lindsey Herring Named Athlete of the Month by Piedmont Athens Regional
Piedmont Athens Regional’s Sports Medicine department announced Lindsey Herring, a rising senior at Lake Oconee Academy, has been named Athlete of the Month, a program that recognizes one student athlete each month for his/her demonstrated perseverance through an athletic injury or medical illness either on or off the field.

Positive rabies alert in Gainesville area
This is to advise that there was contact recently between a rabid raccoon and a cat in the 5600 block of Cool Springs Road in the Gainesville area. The raccoon was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab - Virology Section in Decatur. Hall County Animal Control was advised Wednesday that the raccoon tested positive for rabies. This is the seventh confirmed case of rabies in Hall County in 2022.

Local Couple's Journey with Cancer Leads to Transformational Gift
Tony and Teresa Funari, Braselton residents are giving back to that community with a gift to Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) to support cancer services so others can receive the life-saving treatment and care as they did while fighting cancer. Tony was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2000. It was a battle he never saw himself having, but looking back, it was a battle he’s thankful for and one he couldn’t have gotten through without friends, family and his community. Teresa’s battle with breast cancer was different, but just as impactful on her life.

Piedmont Leases Space for New Medical Offices Near Piedmont Newton Hospital
Piedmont has leased 25,000-square-feet of space in the Shoppes at Martin’s Crossing, about one mile from the Piedmont Newton Hospital campus, for medical offices. The shopping center will be renamed Eastside Crossing and is adjacent to the popular Eastside Trail. Renovations are slated for completion in early 2023.
