Mobile home decals no longer required to prove property tax payment

County of Hall issued the following announcement on August 26.

Hall County mobile home owners are no longer required to place a decal on their mobile home, signifying their payment of property tax.

The change comes after the passage of Georgia SB 193 earlier this year, which granted counties the option to remove the decal requirement for mobile homes.  The Hall County Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution at their meeting Thursday night, solidifying the change in operations following a recommendation from the Hall County Tax Commissioner’s Office.

“In a continuous effort to research new laws that affect our office and related departments, our research supports eliminating the issuance of mobile home decals as outlined in Hall County’s Code of Ordinances,” said Hall County Tax Commissioner Darla Eden (pictured).

Eden, whose office issues approximately 8,800 mobile home decals annually, said the change will have no impact on County revenues.

“The property tax billing and collection will not change; however, we are estimated to save the County $20,000 a year in product costs, postage and labor,” she said.

Eden went on to say that neither the Hall County Marshal’s Office nor appraisers in the Hall County Tax Assessors’ Office depend on the decals for their operations.

“The marshals work directly with our office on enforcement and collection of tax, utilizing delinquent reports, and the appraisers rely on in-house software for assessment and related exemptions,” said Eden.

She said the change will also eliminate the enforcement issues associated with decals that were incorrectly applied or not applied at all.

“I think anytime we can make life easier for the public, reduce expenses and not lose any essential function, we should proceed in full healthy speed,” said Eden.
