Piedmont Athens Regional recently held an emergency preparedness course for Athens United soccer coaches. The course is offered to educate coaches and others affiliated with the soccer program on how to manage the athletes’ health and safety during an emergency.
Community Educator and Safe Kids Coordinator April Dorsett, RN, BSN, and Katie Terrell, MS, LAT, ATC, EMT-B, athletic trainer and outreach coordinator for the Piedmont Athens Regional Sports Medicine Program, provided instruction in emergency action planning, responding to emergencies, and troubleshooting emergency care with an emphasis on sudden cardiac arrest and exertional heat illness. The coaches also learned hands-only CPR, a life-saving skill that keeps oxygenated blood perfusing the brain and organs.
Piedmont Athens Regional is proud to be the title sponsor of Athens United. During the season, they help the organization by providing first aid stations, chances for coaches to learn more health and safety tips, and clinics where student athletes can practice their skills without getting hurt.
