Dear Friends,

In  Arlington Cemetery there stands a lone guard, keeping an eternal vigil at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

This sacred spot of American soil is not only a monument to our nameless warriors lost to time.

It is a promise to all who lay down their lives in service to our country:

No matter what the future holds for our nation…

No matter what politicians and presidents come and go…

No matter if every other word and deed of men shall be forgotten…

You will be remembered.

I was privileged to serve in the United States Marine Corps and Navy.

I was blessed to forge friendships with some of the finest men and women to ever wear our nation’s uniform.

And I experienced the reality that some of them never came home.

But still, they live on. In my thoughts, in my struggles, and in all my endeavors.

This Memorial Day, let us rededicate our hearts as living pieces of that quiet plot of land in Arlington, keeping watch for our countrymen who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

Let us remember the men and women who served our country with honor, and salute American families on the home-front who bear the heavy crown of a golden star.

It is a symbol of heavenly treasures awaiting those of whom it is written:

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

Semper Fidelis, and God bless America.

-Rep. Rich McCormick
