WASHINGTON - Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA) has introduced legislation to mandate strict oversight and accountability for all aid being sent to Ukraine for use in its defense against Vladimir Putin's illegal invasion.
"As we continue to lead international assistance to Ukraine, Americans deserve to know how their tax dollars are being spent," said Rep. McCormick. "I support standing with Ukraine, and I support fiscal responsibility. That's why I have introduced the Ukraine Aid Oversight Act to guarantee that American taxpayer money is being used for the defense against Russia's invasion, not to enrich bad people or be wasted frivolously."
The Ukraine Aid Oversight Act:
1) Requires the Offices of the Inspector General of the Department of Defense, the Department of State, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to produce a publicly available quarterly report on international assistance to Ukraine, along with any policy recommendations on oversight of said assistance. The report must contain information such as any cases of misuse of aid and the sufficiency of current oversight.
2) Mandates that each OIG have at least one member of staff on the ground in Ukraine conduct vigilant oversight of U.S. aid.
3) Gives the three IGs flexible hiring authority so they can quickly hire necessary staff for the purposes of this report.
