David Clark, the representative for Georgia's House District 98, said that Democrats fully support using taxpayer dollars to fund sex reassignment surgeries for state prisoners, while Republicans unanimously oppose such funding to protect taxpayers. He made this statement on X on April 2.

"Georgia House Democrats fully support using taxpayer dollars to fund sex changes for state prisoners," said Clark. "they fled the vote like spineless opportunists, dodging accountability at every turn. Republicans stood strong, voting unanimously to protect taxpayer money and uphold common sense fiduciary responsibility. This is the difference: Democrats play political games, while Republicans deliver on their promises to the people."

According to The Atlanta Voice, Georgia House Democrats walked out during the debate on Senate Bill 185. This bill seeks to prohibit the use of taxpayer funds for gender-affirming care for state prisoners. Introduced by Republican Senator Randy Robertson, the bill aims to prevent the Georgia Department of Corrections from providing gender-affirming treatments, such as surgeries and hormone therapies, to inmates. The walkout by Democrats highlighted divisions in the state legislature over transgender rights for incarcerated individuals.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that Senate Bill 185 passed the Georgia House of Representatives with a vote of 100-2, with all Democratic members absent after walking out. The bill aims to prevent the Georgia Department of Corrections from providing gender-affirming care, including sex reassignment surgeries and hormone replacement therapy, to inmates. Supporters argue that the bill addresses fiscal responsibility and taxpayer concerns.

Clark has served as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives since 2015, representing District 100. He is a conservative politician with a background in business and military service, advocating for policies such as limited government and pro-life stances. Representative Clark resides in Buford, Georgia, and is involved in his local church as a volunteer leader for middle school boys.
