Congressman Rich McCormick has voted in favor of H.R. 22, known as the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, a bill he co-sponsored with Representative Chip Roy from Texas. The legislation is designed to reinforce the principle that voting in federal elections is reserved solely for American citizens.
Congressman McCormick stated, “As your representative, I hear your concerns loud and clear: voter fraud and election interference are real issues that demand action.” He emphasized the importance of addressing constituents' concerns about election integrity, asserting, “In my district, constituents have repeatedly raised alarms about the integrity of our elections—and I agree that even one illegal ballot is one too many. That’s why I support the SAVE Act: it’s a smart, targeted solution to enforce existing laws and protect the power of your vote.”
The SAVE Act proposes that states strengthen their voter registration processes to verify citizenship for federal elections. It also gives states the authority to remove non-citizens from voter rolls and penalizes those who knowingly attempt to register ineligible individuals. The bill specifies that individuals must present a valid form of identification, which can include a REAL ID, U.S. passport, military ID, or another government-issued identification from a federal, state, or tribal authority, in order to vote.
According to McCormick, “The SAVE Act isn’t about politics—it’s about principles. It strengthens our republic by enforcing the law and ensuring every legal vote counts.”
