WASHINGTON - Congressman Rich McCormick, along with 43 cosponsors, has introduced the Protecting Resources Of Taxpayers to Eliminate Childhood Transgender Surgeries (PROTECTS) Act, aimed at prohibiting federal funds from being used for gender transition procedures on minors.

McCormick, a physician and father, emphasized the importance of protecting children by ensuring that taxpayer money is not used to fund what he considers dangerous medical procedures. He highlighted that these procedures not only raise ethical concerns but also have long-term negative effects on the physical and mental well-being of children.

In a statement, McCormick stated, "The majority of America can agree that the federal government should not be funding sex change procedures for minors. Children do not have the cognitive development to make life-altering decisions. The PROTECTS Act is a great first step in addressing a fundamental problem that the US government should be no part of."

The legislation has garnered support from various cosponsors, including Congressman Ralph Norman, who expressed his opposition to using tax dollars for irreversible procedures on minors. Norman emphasized the importance of prioritizing the nation's financial resources and preventing funding for what he described as "horrific treatments."

Congressman Lance Gooden echoed the sentiment, highlighting the importance of safeguarding children from irreversible, life-altering procedures and ensuring that federal funds are not used to support gender transition procedures for minors.

Similarly, Congresswoman Carol Miller emphasized the ethical and physical harm caused by gender transition procedures on minors, stating, "All children are made in the image of God; to change their gender is to disregard the blessing given from above."

Other cosponsors, including Congressman Troy Nehls, Congressman Tom Tiffany, and Congresswoman Mary Miller, reiterated their opposition to using taxpayer money for what they deemed as harmful and irreversible procedures on children.

The PROTECTS Act has received endorsements from organizations such as the Alliance Defending Freedom, Family Research Council, Frontline Policy Action, and Family Policy Alliance.

The legislation reflects a growing concern among lawmakers about the use of federal funds for gender transition procedures on minors and aims to protect the well-being of children from what some describe as harmful and irreversible practices.
