Congressman Rich McCormick has introduced the PROTECTS Act of 2025, a bill aimed at prohibiting federal funds from being used for gender transition procedures on minors. The legislation includes exceptions for individuals with medically verifiable disorders. McCormick introduced this bill alongside 32 fellow Representatives.

“As a physician and father, I will never stop fighting to protect all children by ensuring these dangerous medical procedures are not funded by American taxpayers," stated Congressman Rich McCormick.

The introduction of the PROTECTS Act coincides with President Trump's recent Executive Order, which also seeks to prevent federal funding for such procedures. "Executive Orders serve a purpose when immediate action is useful, but it is incumbent on us in Congress to go through the legislative process and codify it into law," McCormick commented.

Several organizations have expressed support for the bill, including Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), Frontline Policy Action, Family Research Council, and Family Policy Alliance. Matt Sharp of ADF remarked that “Children who experience discomfort with their sex need the loving embrace of family, not risky drugs and life-altering procedures."

Various Representatives have voiced their backing of the legislation. Congressman Andrew Clyde described gender transition surgeries on minors as "premeditated child abuse," while Congressman Mike Collins emphasized that "Radical woke ideology has attached itself to America’s children like Velcro."

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna stated that "Our children are being put at risk by radical gender transition ideologies that promote irreversible and experimental medical procedures at the taxpayer's expense."

The proposed act aims to safeguard minors from what supporters describe as harmful practices while preventing taxpayer dollars from funding them.
